Vinted: Item Not as Described

If a Vinted item is not as described, report it quickly: Vinted’s refund policy gives you 2 calendar days to report an issue and request a refund. Most Vinted sales are between private people, so goods only need to be as described. Buyers usually pay return postage, unless the seller provides a return label. Vinted’s UK terms changed on 8 October 2026, so check the app.

Vinted Refunds

  • Refund Policy

Vinted’s refund policy says you have 2 calendar days to report an issue and request a refund, counted from when Vinted tells you the order should have been delivered or seems lost. It says you get a full refund if the order is confirmed as lost, damaged or not received; a partial refund for an item not as described is agreed with the seller. source

  • Return Postage

On Vinted, buyers usually pay return postage unless the seller agrees to pay, even for significantly misdescribed items. Trading Standards considers such terms unfair and encourages people to challenge them. source

  • Private Sales

Most Vinted purchases are between two private people, so goods only need to be 'as described'. If the app's process fails, you can try a chargeback through your bank if you paid by card, then the Financial Ombudsman if the bank refuses. Vinted is not part of an alternative dispute resolution scheme. source

  • Terms Update

Vinted's UK terms changed with effect from 8 October 2026. A trade report says Vinted's European terms renamed the 'Buyer Protection' fee the 'Vinted fee' and set out refund rights for lost, damaged, significantly not as described or counterfeit items in a separate Refund Policy. Check the app for the current UK wording and time limit. source

Who You Are Buying From

  • Trader or Private Seller

Your rights depend on whether the seller is a trader or a private individual, not on the website. Traders must make clear that they are businesses. source

  • Buying from a Private Seller

Buying from a private seller: only the 'as described' requirement applies. Unless the description was misleading, you generally cannot demand a refund because you are unhappy with the purchase or it has a problem. source

  • Private Seller Descriptions

A private seller cannot misdescribe an item, but can leave out information. If the item does not match the listing's photos, you may have grounds for a refund even from a private seller. source
