Facebook Marketplace Purchase Protection
Facebook Marketplace’s free Purchase Protection covers eligible orders bought with delivery or checkout on Facebook. You can request a refund if the order did not arrive, arrived damaged or different from the listing, or the seller did not follow its refund policy. Local pick-ups, Messenger payments and peer-to-peer payments such as PayPal are not covered. Contact the seller first; you can claim if they do not sort it within two working days.

What Is Not Covered
On Facebook Marketplace, local pick-ups, Messenger payments, peer-to-peer payments such as PayPal, and purchases on other sites are not covered. Vehicles, rentals, services and orders over £2,000 are also not covered. You must contact the seller first, and can file a claim with Facebook if the seller does not resolve it within two working days. source
Who You Are Buying From
Trader or Private Seller
Your rights depend on whether the seller is a trader or a private individual, not on the website. Traders must make clear that they are businesses. source
Buying from a Private Seller
Buying from a private seller: only the 'as described' requirement applies. Unless the description was misleading, you generally cannot demand a refund because you are unhappy with the purchase or it has a problem. source
Paying by Card or PayPal
Paying by card or PayPal gives you a better chance of recovering money, especially with overseas sellers. Citizens Advice advises avoiding bank transfers. source
