Halfords Returns and Refunds

Consumer Protection UK is independent and is not connected to Halfords. Halfords says that if you change your mind within 30 days you can return an item to any of its stores, unused, clean and in its original packaging, with proof of purchase. You can post an online order back within 28 days of receiving it, at your own cost unless it is faulty.

Your Rights

What the rules say, with a link to the official source for each.

Halfords's Returns Policy

  • Change of Mind

Halfords says if you change your mind within 30 days you can return to any of its stores. The item must be unused, clean and in its original packaging, and you need your proof of purchase. source

  • Postal Returns

Halfords says online orders can be posted back within 28 days of receiving the order. Postage is at your expense unless the item is faulty, in which case it is refunded after inspection. source

  • Exceptions

Halfords says items collected at a garage are refund only; e-scooters cannot be returned by courier; dash cams, sat navs, DVDs, memory cards and software are exchangeable only if faulty or unused with seals intact. Faulty items are inspected before any refund or exchange. source

Your Legal Rights

  • Cooling-off Period

Most online and phone orders have a 14-day cooling-off period, but goods that are clearly personalised or made to your specification are excluded. Made-to-measure items for non-standard sizes are an example. source

  • Reject Within 30 Days

Within 30 days of delivery you can usually reject faulty goods and get a refund. You will normally need to show the fault. source

  • Refund Deadline

Refunds must be paid without undue delay, and within 14 days of the trader agreeing you are entitled to one. source

  • What Goods Must Be

Goods you buy from a business must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for their purpose (Consumer Rights Act 2015). Your contract is with the seller, not the manufacturer, so the seller is the one to complain to. source

Time Limits to Know

Miss a deadline and you can lose a right. Check the dates on your own paperwork.
