Power Cut Compensation
If your electricity is off for more than 12 hours (or 24 hours when over 5,000 properties are affected), your local network operator should pay you £100 as a household, plus £45 for every further 12 hours. Storm rules differ. Most payments are automatic.

Power Cut Payments
Unplanned Cuts
You can get £100 for homes (£195 for businesses) if fewer than 5,000 properties are affected for more than 12 hours, or more than 5,000 for more than 24 hours, plus £45 for every further 12 hours. The maximum is £400 where 5,000 or more are affected. Payments are usually automatic from your local network operator; contact it if nothing arrives after a few months. source
Storms and Repeat Cuts
In severe weather: category 1 storms £90 for the first 24 hours, category 2 £90 for the first 48 hours, then £45 every 6 hours, up to £2,235. An extra £100 for more than 4 cuts in a year must be claimed from the network operator. source
