TalkTalk Automatic Compensation for Broadband Faults

What TalkTalk says it pays for delayed repairs, missed engineer appointments and delayed activation, how you are paid and what to do if it does not arrive.

TalkTalk credits your account automatically for a total loss of service, a delayed start of service or a missed engineer appointment. Consumer Protection UK is independent and is not connected to TalkTalk. This page sets out what TalkTalk itself says on its official page, checked on 4 October 2026.

Short answer: TalkTalk is on Ofcom’s list of providers in the automatic compensation scheme for home broadband and landline. It should credit you without you asking; if it does not, ask in writing.

What TalkTalk Says It Pays

ProblemAs TalkTalk states it
Total loss of service£10.34 a day, starting from the third day (phone and broadband only, not TV or quality problems)
Delayed start of service£6.46 for missing the go-live date, then £6.46 for each full calendar day of delay
Missed appointment£32.31 credited to your account

How and When You Are Paid

TalkTalk says the credit is added to your account automatically 30 days after your issue is resolved, and that it will send an email or text to tell you. It appears on your bill under “Adjustments made”, labelled “Delay Compensation” or “Missed Appointment Compensation”.

If You Have Not Been Paid

The page we read does not say what to do if the credit does not arrive. Ask in writing after the 30 days and quote your complaint or fault reference. Ofcom lists TalkTalk’s participation as limited for customers who are not on the Openreach network.

It covers home broadband and landline only, not mobile. See our guide to broadband compensation for delayed repairs for the scheme as a whole and a ready-to-use letter.

If It Still Is Not Resolved

If TalkTalk does not put it right, the scheme named in our guide is CISAS (Communication and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme). See the full TalkTalk complaints guide.

Official page: TalkTalk automatic compensation (opens in a new tab). Check it before you claim, because figures and rules change.
