Next Returns and Refunds: Policy and Your Rights

What Next says about returns and refunds: the window, costs, refund timing, exclusions and faulty items, plus your legal rights.

Next’s returns page sets out its change-of-mind window, refund timing and what it will not take back. Consumer Protection UK is independent and is not connected to Next. This page sets out what Next itself says on its official page, checked on 4 October 2026.

Short answer: the window and costs below are Next’s own. They are for changing your mind. If an item is faulty your legal rights are separate and stronger: 30 days to reject it for a refund, then repair or replacement, with a 6-month presumption that the fault was there from the start.

Next’s Returns Policy, in Brief

QuestionAs Next states it
Return window28 days for full-price and sale items ordered online, starting the day after delivery (or collection from a store). Items must be in perfect condition and in the original packaging.
Cost of returningFree to a Next store. Evri (collection, ParcelShop, Post Office or locker) and Royal Mail returns cost £2.50 per return, however many items, and this is taken off your refund. If you return the whole order the £4.95 delivery charge is refunded. Large furniture and homeware items carry a non-refundable collection charge of £30 in the first 14 days or £60 from day 15 to 30, unless faulty.
RefundsStore returns are refunded the same day to your original payment method (PayPal within 1 working day). Posted returns are refunded within 1 working day of reaching Next’s returns centre, which typically takes about 3 days. Your bank may then take extra time. Returns after 28 days get an eVoucher instead of a refund.
Cannot be returnedFood, drink, plants and fresh flowers; gift cards and eVouchers; made-to-measure items; opened cosmetics, toiletries, mattresses and pierced jewellery; unsealed paint. Swimwear and underwear only if unworn and unused. Assembled large furniture unless faulty. Nothing can be returned through airport or Fabled stores.
Faulty itemsNext asks you to contact it with a photo for clothing and small home items, and to phone for large furniture. The exceptions above do not apply to faulty goods, and your legal rights are unaffected.

If It Is Not Put Right

If Next does not put it right, the scheme named in our guide is Financial Ombudsman Service (credit-related complaints only). See the full Next complaints guide.

Official page: Next returns and refunds (opens in a new tab). Check it before you claim, because figures and rules change.
