How to Cancel O2
O2 says it needs 30 days' notice to cancel, through My O2 or by contacting it (202 free from an O2 Pay Monthly phone). To switch network, text PAC to 65075 or STAC to 75075. Any Device Plan must still be paid off. Consumer Protection UK is independent and is not connected to O2.

Leaving O2
Notice
O2 says it needs 30 days' notice to cancel, through My O2 or by contacting it (free on 202 from Pay Monthly or 4445 from Pay As You Go). To switch, text PAC to 65075 or STAC to 75075; you should get the code within 60 seconds. If you leave without switching and do not want your number, contact O2: the contract stays active until you switch. source
Device Plans
O2 says you must pay off any Device Plan. On O2 Refresh you can keep paying in instalments or pay the balance in full, and cancelling the airtime plan on Refresh means no early termination charges on the airtime. source
Charges and Your Final Bill
Early Termination Charges
If you cancel before the end of your minimum term, early termination charges may apply. Outside O2 Refresh, the charge covers the remaining months of the minimum term. For SIM-only and Standard Plan contracts it is the monthly tariff times the remaining months, minus 4%. Your final bill comes 14 days after you are disconnected. source
Free Dispute Resolution
If your complaint is not resolved, you can use a free alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme once six weeks have passed since your initial complaint, or earlier if you receive a deadlock letter. The two schemes are the Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme (CISAS) and the Communications Ombudsman. All providers must belong to one. source

CISAS or the Communications Ombudsman (ADR)
Six weeks after your complaint, or when you receive a deadlock letter. Free for you. Your provider will say which scheme it belongs to.
Good to Know
Small things that make your complaint stronger.
Complaints about O2 device plans (finance) go to the Financial Ombudsman Service, not CISAS.
