c2c Delay Repay: How to Claim Train Delay Compensation

How to claim c2c Delay Repay compensation: the delay thresholds, how to claim, the time limit and what to do if it is refused.

Standard Delay Repay claims are open for delays over 15 minutes. c2c Smartcard users are repaid automatically for delays above 2 minutes. Consumer Protection UK is independent and is not connected to c2c. This page sets out what c2c itself says on its official page, checked on 4 October 2026.

Short answer: claim in writing or online within 28 days of the delay, with proof of your journey. If you are still unhappy after the train company has answered, the Rail Ombudsman is free.

What You Get Back

The page points to the National Rail Conditions of Travel for the compensation figures and does not set them out itself.

How to Claim

  • an online form on its Delay Repay portal
  • paper forms available at stations or to download

Time limit: 28 days of the delay.

Which Tickets Count

Single, return and weekly tickets, monthly and longer season tickets, c2c Smartcard tickets and Oyster, contactless and pay-as-you-go journeys. Claims need proof of purchase.

How You Are Paid

Credit or debit card, National Rail Travel Vouchers, cash through a voucher exchange, cheque, or a donation to Missing People or Havens Hospices (online claims only).

If c2c Does Not Put It Right

c2c is listed by the Rail Ombudsman. Allow the train company 40 working days to resolve your complaint, or until it sends a final response (deadlock letter) if that comes sooner, then you can take it to the Rail Ombudsman. See the full c2c complaints guide.

Official page: c2c Delay Repay and compensation (opens in a new tab). Always check the current figures there before you claim.
